Location and monitored response
Additional start protection
A tracker supports location and recovery. An immobiliser adds a step before the vehicle can be started. The right combination depends on your vehicle and the precise category your insurer accepts.

Read the guideA vehicle tracker helps locate a vehicle and supports a response if it is stolen. A compatible immobiliser is intended to prevent the engine from being started without the authorised action. They address different stages of theft, so pairing them can offer a broader layer of protection than either alone. The exact functions depend on the products fitted.
Start with your insurance schedule. If it names Thatcham S5, select a system that satisfies that stated category. Adding a separate immobiliser to an S7 tracker does not automatically convert it into an S5 or S5 Plus system. Ask the insurer whether it accepts the precise tracker and immobiliser combination, including any activation and monitoring conditions.
Owners of high-value, keyless or frequently targeted vehicles may want both theft deterrence and recovery support. A tracker can provide location information after an unauthorised movement; an immobiliser can add an authorisation step before driving. Neither system guarantees prevention or recovery. A professional fitting discussion can establish whether the chosen devices are appropriate for your vehicle and how they interact with factory security.
You can compare a fitted S5 tracker with a separate Casper immobiliser, or review the S5 Plus product if that is the category and feature set required. Check the certification and claims on each product listing; do not assume every immobiliser is Thatcham certified. If your insurer specifies a particular device, confirm acceptance before purchasing.
