An S5 tracker is a vehicle tracking system with Automatic Driver Recognition (ADR). For our S5 package, the driver carries a tag so the system can distinguish authorised use from movement without a recognised tag. It adds a useful layer of detection when a vehicle is taken using its keys.
How the driver tag works
Carry the tag according to the supplied instructions whenever you drive. If the vehicle moves without a recognised tag, the system can alert the monitoring service to investigate. Keep your contact details up to date so an alert can be checked with you.
Store spare tags securely outside the vehicle and keep tags separate from the car keys where practical. If a tag is lost, contact the provider about disabling and replacing it. Never rely on leaving a tag in the vehicle to avoid alerts.
Does S5 stop the car from starting?
Standard S5 driver recognition detects use without a recognised tag; it is not the same as an immobiliser. Our S5 Plus package adds tag-operated No Tag, No Start protection. Our EV and hybrid package uses a PIN entered with vehicle buttons. Check the exact product and compatibility when choosing added start protection.
S5 versus S7
Both our S7 and S5 packages provide monitored tracking. S5 adds driver recognition; S7 does not include that S5 feature. An S7 tracker does not satisfy a policy specifically requiring S5.
Choose using the category or device named in your insurance schedule. A more expensive system does not automatically change your premium or excess. If the wording is unclear, obtain your insurer’s confirmation before ordering.
What about GPS, mobile networks and radio?
Tracking and communication technologies differ by device. Do not assume that S5 certification means a unit includes VHF radio, mesh networking or every app feature. Check the specific product details. Reception and communication can be affected by coverage, surroundings and interference; no system guarantees immediate alerts or recovery.
What does our S5 cost?
Our Thatcham S5 costs £349 fitted, plus £10.99/month monitoring. With the first month included at checkout, the initial total is £359.99. Twelve months of monitoring totals £131.88, making the fitted system and first year £480.88 before optional extras. Subsequent monthly payments are arranged separately; prepaid monitoring is also available.
What happens after ordering?
Provide the vehicle and installation information requested at checkout. Your preferred dates are requests until the booking is confirmed. After fitting and activation, the digital certificate records the installation details for you to supply to your insurer. Keep monitoring active and follow your policy’s requirements.
